Biology

Prunus necrotic ringspot is a viral disease affecting most cultivated Prunus species. Leaves may show various symptoms including brown, sunken, necrotic spots; chlorotic (yellowish to white) blotches or other patterns; or dark rings etched on the leaf.

The necrotic spots may drop from the leaf, giving it a “shotholed” appearance.

The disease is spread to healthy trees via infected pollen and by grafting

Management Options

Use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for successful plant problem management.

Non-chemical Management

Select non-chemical management options as your first choice!

  • Remove infected trees from orchards, if desired.
  • Plant and graft only with stock that is certified virus-free.

Chemical Management

IMPORTANT: Visit Home and Garden Fact Sheets for more information on using pesticides.

  • None recommended.
